The track has undergone various changes in the newest game, notably the inclusion of a hairpin bend at the finish of the circuit. Much of the route, including the tunnel parts, is still intact, and will certainly be etched in the minds of series fans. With this clip from the PlayStation 1, you can see how far the franchise’s aesthetics have progressed:
The lighting is simply beautiful, as it often is with Polyphony Digital games — and we think it’ll look even better on an HDR screen, as YouTube appears to have washed out the colors a little bit. The foliage has a lot of shadow pop-in, which is a little distracting, but it’s something the developer might possibly fix before March.
The cockpit animations are one area where we’re very impressed. To portray the road’s bobbles, the Japanese developer has added a lot of sway and bobble to the first-person camera, and it looks fantastic. It won’t be long before this game arrives on both the PS5 and PS4, and we can’t wait to get behind the wheel.
